Historically the East End and Hendon area formed the centre of Sunderland and today it is home to over 10,000 people. The area has a strong tradition of community involvement and voluntary activity.

The East End and Hendon is located in the east of Sunderland between the city centre, the River Wear, the Port and the North Sea coast.  The area is made up of three neighbourhoods the East End, Middle Hendon and South Hendon (the long streets), and also takes in the part of the city centre known as Sunniside.

The area has an abundance of services and amenities including, three flagship primary schools at Valley Road Community Primary School, Hudson Road Primary School and Grangetown School; an attractive quayside; Hendon Beach; Raich Carter Sports Centre; Sunderland Bangladeshi Community Centre; Etec Training Centres, youth projects and Health services to name a few.

Being in such close proximity to the city centre the area also benefits from employment opportunities and transport links as well as links to a range of retail outlets, restaurants, arts and cultural facilities.
